Abby,

I have summer assignments, but I am not sure when to start them or how long they will take to complete. Can you help?

Sincerely,

Summer Student

Summer Student,

If it is a written assignment, do that as soon as you can. These take a little longer than most assignments, so don’t procrastinate! It is not beneficial to wait until the day before school starts. If you don’t want to complete it right away, have it done by the end of July. This gives you time to enjoy summer but not feel so stressed before school starts. If it is a book, pace yourself. Depending on the size of the book, it is okay to wait a little bit to read it. Yet, don’t try to read it all in one day. Do what is best for you in terms of reading speed.

Abby,

Should I get a summer job?

Sincerely,

Hard Worker

Hard Worker,

If you have the time, go for it! It can never hurt to earn some money and use your free time in a productive way. As long as you enjoy the job and don’t mind giving up part of your summer, then a summer job is a great thing to have. If you are hesitant about giving up that much of your time, talk to your parents or other workers to see if it is the best option for you.
