From the studios of Marvel and Disney, Captain Marvel was released on March 8th, 2019, starring Brie Larson as Captain Marvel and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, who went on to become the director of S.H.I.E.L.D, the agency that oversees the Avengers. The movie itself shows Captain Marvel, previously known as Carol Danvers fighting off evil villains, her own demons, and surviving through all of her own insecurities. In the movie, Marvel discovers how powerful she truly is and will not be held back from what she was meant to do.

Captain Marvel started as a normal everyday human known as Carol Danvers, living her life as one of the first female fighter pilots in the early 1990s. She was known as a rebel, unafraid of taking risks, and always wanting to be in the air. That all came crashing down after a test flight in a prototype aircraft with fellow scientist Dr. Wendy Lawson. Unknown to Danvers, the craft was carrying an unearthly energy source, one that was heavily sought after.

Once in the air, the duo quickly came under fire from an unrecognizable aircraft, one that seemed almost inhuman. After a quick skirmish, Danvers and Lawson were shot down, landing on a small island. In this moment, it is revealed that Lawson isn’t human herself, but is in fact a member of an unknown alien race, the Kree. Lawson would lose her life in the fight, but in an attempt to keep the energy away from their attackers, Danvers would shoot the engine (which contained the energy source), destroying the craft. Danvers would absorb the energy expelled in the following explosion, which would lead to her ultimate abduction. She would soon become a member of the Kree herself.

The movie was powerful in many ways. There are scenes in the movie that will just make you want to rethink everything that you thought you couldn’t do or something you have completely given up on. One of my favorite scenes is where her Captain Yon-Rogg, her supposed friend brings her to the AI. He tells Carol she’s not good or strong enough to be on her own as a warrior and without them she will be nothing.

Carol realizes that what was said was not true at all.  She knew that she could do anything she put her mind too and didn’t care about anyone’s opinion that thought any less of her.  That scene created an inspiring tone for the whole film.

Another positive aspect of the film was integrating other familiar characters into the plot.  I loved seeing all of the old characters such as Agent Phil Coulson make a reappearance in Captain Marvel. This movie seemed to be made to tie up all the loose ends and questions  that everyone is confused about before the movie Avengers End Game hits theaters in April.

The costuming of the film was well done.  The movie pulled off well the looks of the 90’s look, and it was creative with the costumes. Something that really popped out was when Danvers made a costume change with her flight suit.   At first, she appears in the film wearing blue and green of the Kree Warriors, and towards the end she changes into the iconic red and blue Captain Marvel suit to visually show the separation of who she was and who she was becoming.

When the film was over, I realized how truly inspiring Captain Marvel really was. It’s a movie that shows you to never give up on your dreams and you will succeed. Definitely a movie you don’t want to miss. Captain Marvel is definitely a movie I would watch again.

The movie really showed you many things that could change you as a person. The things that are said in the movie is just a real eye opener to anyone who is struggling with not giving all they got because they think they can’t succeed in the end.
